Margie is experienced in structuring secured and unsecured loans and debt offerings, exchange offers, cash tender offers and consent solicitations for both investment grade and non-investment grade issuers. She has also been involved in distressed buyout situations, complex restructurings and general corporate work.

Margie has worked on multiple projects across different jurisdictions, including the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Macau, India, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Singapore, Kazakhstan, United States of America, United Kingdom and various continental European countries.

She also has experience in numerous industries including real estate, electronic vehicle related business, oil & gas, electronics, chemicals, aviation, gaming and food & beverages.

Margie has worked in the Hong Kong, Beijing, London and New York offices of international law firms. Before forming Margie Chan & Co, Margie was a Debt Capital Markets partner at a leading international law firm.

A native Cantonese speaker, Margie also speaks near native Mandarin and English.

The exchange offer and consent solicitation, and subsequent reopening exchange offer by Zhongliang Holdings Group Company Limited (resulting in an aggregate principal amount of US$630 million of new notes issuance) in 2022, and the offer to purchase and consent solicitation, and subsequent related debt repurchase, by Redco Properties Ltd (resulting in an aggregate principal amount of US$300 million of new notes issuance) in 2022, were shortlisted as High Yield Deal of the Year at the IFLR Asia Pacific Awards 2023 – both deals were structured and executed by Margie and her team.

Margie also advised the administrative agent and lead arranger in connection with the United States Chapter 11 exit financing for Lyondell Chemical Company and affiliated debtors, involving US$20 billion of outstanding debt, being one of the largest restructurings at the time.

In 2020, the Debt Capital Markets team led by Margie ranked 1st on the Debtwire APAC (ex-Japan) Corporate USD HY Bonds League Table – Managers’ Legal Counsel league table (by volume).
